ATC and TEW Workshops

Ls11 Ls12

For Lesson 11 I stamped my lady on a manila folder and cut it down to ATC size. Then I applied ink to a piece of Mica that we were to use. I attached the 3 flowers where she has flowers in her hair. Then attached the "mystere". Lesson 12 was VERY interesting! I had never heard of Friendly Plastic. It certainly has its "issues". Try as I might I could NOT get it to lay completely flat! I melted a piece of multi-color purple (middle) and plain purple (sides) together. Took my butterfly stamp with ink and stamped into the still warm plastic. Added six eyelets to get the holes (which they ended up falling out and I just left it!).

The background papers for these cards was already printed with Japanese calligraphy. I then took a transparency and stamped the "ladies" on that. Added the color to the transparency using a "pouncing" method to apply the alcohol inks that I used.

Ch3Ls2
These cards used a clear resist technique whereby you add clear resist to Cut "N" Dry foam. Then add colors to the areas where there isn't any clear resist. Next you "drag" the foam over the glossy paper. Apply more ink with a cosmetic sponge and randomly stamp your image.

ATC and TEW Workshop

Time to get caught up on my workshops! They've been a lot fun and I've learned so many new techniques. Some of the were a lot of fun and I would probably use again. Then there were those that I might try again and of course there were those that I really didn't care for. Lesson 8 was done using fibers and embossing powder (first picture). The second is a transfer onto cloth. Lesson 9 is an image transfered onto cloth then sewn onto a cloth background. Lesson 10 was down using metal tape and alcohol inks.

CREATIVE PALETTE - Saturday

Have to love a day of shopping! Saturday was spent going around to all the vendors and checking what type of goodies or eye candy they had. It was also a day of either watching or joining in on a demo. The mask was done at the Powder Keg Embossing demo. Even the brads were embossed. The ice cream cone was made at HeartFelt Impressions booth. I also visited Dee Gruenig's booth and she was demonstrating her new ATC size stamps. I sat down with her and she made the ATC pictured. What was even more cool was that she signed and dated the back of it using part of her set. How cool was that! After spending the day shopping and exploring it was time to head back to the hotel to get ready to travel back home on Sunday. It was another wonderful time meeting new people and seeing some "returnees". Look forward to going again next year!

CREATIVE PALETTE CLASSES - Friday

WOW! Can't believe it's been quite a few days since I posted. I guess that's what happens when "life" gets in the way! Anyway, continuing on with my classes. Friday morning I awoke ready for the day. I was really excited about this class because it was with one of my favorite instructors - Elaine Jo from Washi Accents (http://www.ichiyoart.com/). I had a hard time deciding between her class or her husband Hiroshi's lantern class. I love talking with them because of the years spent stationed in Japan. Not to mention they have some of the most beautiful washi paper!

My afternoon class was 3D Paper Cutting from Holland. This was a little intense! But I enjoyed it. Especially after I figured out it was easier to cut out all the pieces (except your base) with an X-acto knife! Cutting went much quicker! Those teeny tiny pieces were a bear!

After class went back to the hotel to rest and be ready for the Musical Chairs that evening. Round one was done with Elaine Jo and we used 2 different printed washi papers. Round two was the flower using embossing powders and special glitter from Powder Keg Embossing Powders (http://www.powderkegembossingpowders.com/). We also used the powders on the brad as the flowers center. It was then given a "sticky" back to be worn as a "pin". Round three was the card using inks and stamps from Heartfelt Impressions. Round four was the ATC with Jennifer Obertin (http://www.rubbernature.com/). We used scraps placed on adhesive paper then trimmed. Using a disk we covered it with a colored patterned paper and attached it. Round five was with Karen Canto (http://www.alextamping.com/). It's a lot of fun using her different stamps to make scenes. Round six was with Sandi Obertin (Jennifer's Mom). We did paper casting (toilet paper) from molds that were created by Sandi. It was a fun and fast evening of learning!

CREATIVE PALETTE CLASSES - Thursday

Thursday morning was my first class and I was excited. Betty Moore was teaching String Art. We used stencils on cardstock then "sewed" the string onto the designated areas making our flowers look like they were suspended or floating. The stencils used were TRAPEZE de Luxe. The stencils are from the Netherlands. The website is http://www.mariannedesign.nl/ to see other designs. We did the pink layout first. Once you get the "hang" of making sure you "sew" in the correct holes it gets much easier. The green card we added beads to it. It was a lot of fun and I bought another stencil!

String Art / String Art with Beads

My next class was with Sandi Obertin from Rubber Nature and Some Things Fishy. This is a family operated business in Wisconsin (http://www.rubbernature.com/). We did different texture effects for paper and fabric. Sandi has developed her own molds for paper casting. We used that really expensive stuff called"toilet paper" (the white "stuff" in the picture) for our molds. We crumpled paper and painted over it, rubbed oil pastels over fabric that was placed over a rubber sheet to get the design and we used crayons rubbed over a rubber design on paper and fabric.

Thursday evening was our dinner. We ate at a restaurant called Salsa Grill. The food was very good. After we ate some of the instructors/vendors would take turns coming around to the tables and give us a 10 minute mini demonstration of their products. Some of the demonstrators were Dee Gruenig, Sandi Obertin, Jennifer Obertin, Barbara McGuire and Anne Gibson to name a few. It was fun to see them create something in so short a time! After dinner it was off to the hotel room to get plenty of rest for the next day activities!

CREATIVE PALETTE CONVENTION

Historic St. Marys, Georgia (Approximately 35 miles north of Jacksonville, FL). Site of the Creative Palette Convention 2008.

This convention has been going on for quite a few years. It was first organized by Paula Amari of Old Town Crafts in St. Marys . It was an awesome store with amazing rubber stamping examples as well as other items. Paula decided to retire when her husband did and sold her store to Betty Moore of Betty's Stamp Pad, Ft. Myers, Florida (http://www.bettysstamppad.com/). Paula and Betty coordinate the convention together. The classes for this event are held in some of the historic buildings. There's an area located to the left of the picture behind the trees where some of the classes are held. Riverside Cafe is located there and really good food! Right next to it is another restaurant, The Trolley and they also have really good food. The white building on the left is an old historic building that is a hotel. Across the street to the right is a "general store" where they make their own fudge! You can bet I sampled that and it was very good! The street between the hotel and store is lined down the middle with trees covered with Spanish Moss. Along the street are numerous Bed & Breakfasts, quaint shops, historid buildings, churches and more.

I left on the 20 February from home as it's about a 4 hour drive from Evans, GA (Augusta area). I always like to stop at Exit 49 to visit the Outlet Mall. Nothing like a little outlet shopping to get you in the mood. I like to stay in Kingsland which is about 10 miles north of St. Marys. Arriving about 1pm I checked in and then headed for Convention Headquarters. Got checked in, received my packet then went down to the waterfront. Double checked my classes, Thursday night dinner and Friday night Musical Chairs. All was in order. Headed back to the hotel to rest and relax and be ready for my next day adventures.
